    Jo was born in Mona Vale Hospital on 19th April 1988, and has lived on Sydney's Northern Beaches her whole life. She participated in many different sports during her time at school but never trained more than once a week for them.

    At the age of 17 I moved to Leipzig due to the perfect conditions there for paddling. I finished sports school and directly after decided to study sports management. I started training slalom in kayak in about 2006 and from this point was so passionate about it.

    Maria Halavrezos is a sprint canoeist hailing from Canada’s East Coast. She currently lives in Montreal where she balances her training with choir rehearsals, volunteering and earning a degree in Cultural Studies and Management from McGill University.
