Maria Halavrezos

Maria Halavrezos (pictured left) is a sprint canoeist hailing from Canada’s East Coast. She currently lives in Montreal where she balances her training with choir rehearsals, volunteering and earning a degree in Cultural Studies and Management from McGill University – someday hoping to break into the world of advertising!
Maria became immersed in the world of paddling at the ripe old age of 5, spending her summers at the Senobe Aquatic Club which soon became a second family and home. Senobe is one of three paddling clubs located on Nova Scotia’s Lake Banook, and after many years of rivalry and close observation Maria teamed up with Jenna Marks (pictured right), an accomplished canoeist from Banook, a neighbouring canoe club.
Together in C2, Maria and Jenna have earned gold medal finishes at Canada Games in 2005 and 2009, the 2009 Pan-American Canoe Kayak Championships in Rio de Janeiro, and the 2009 Senior World Canoe Kayak Championships in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
After a couple of slow years, Maria is determined to make 2013 a racing season that she can be proud of, and is looking forward to teaming up with Sportscene to share in her journey back to the podium!
