Although whitewater canoeing doesn’t get as much spotlight as it’s more known cousins – the Olympic disciplines of canoe slalom and sprint canoeing – canoeing fans still look forward to the most important competitions in this discipline. This year all eyes will be turned to Italy where ICF World Championships will take place.
Former paddlers, kayaker Milan Zadel and canoeist Andrej Jelenc, were accepted to the Slovenian Sporting Hall of Fame. Zadel and Jelenc are the first paddlers of Canoe Federation of Slovenia to be honoured.
The first day of the 2013 ICF Wildwater Canoeing Juniors World Championships in Lofer was also the first day of surprises and a Czech double strike. The individual classic races were on the schedule.
The last competition day of 2013 ICF Wildwater Canoeing Sprint World Championships in Solkan ended with a big win for France. They won three gold medals in men’s C1, women’s K1 and men’s C2 event and a silver medal in men’s kayak event. The Czech paddlers won a gold medal in men’s kayak team race.
The first final results of the 2013 ICF Wildwater Canoeing Sprint World Championships in Solkan are known. The host nation celebrated a double win in the men’s Canadian double event and Hannah Brown (GBR) won a world champion title in the women’s kayak final.
Slovenian canoeists took advantage of the home course on the Soča River in Solkan producing excellent runs in the heats of the 2013 ICF Wildwater Canoeing sprint World Championships.
The emerald Soča River will host another big Wildwater Canoeing competition this weekend. After the European Championships in Bovec, paddlers now await the start of the ICF Wildwater Canoeing Sprint World Championships in Solkan.
Whitewater meets sprint this weekend at the European Downriver Championships on the Soča River. This year is special for Slovenians – an event has not taken place here for over two decades!
Along with Pau-Pyrenees Urban Community President, Martine Lignère-Cassou, and President of the French Canoe Federation Vincent Blanchet, Tony Estanguet presented the French candidature for the 2017 ICF World Championships to the ICF board in Glasgow.
