At the age of 17 I moved to Leipzig due to the perfect conditions there for paddling. I finished sports school and directly after decided to study sports management. I started training slalom in kayak in about 2006 and from this point was so passionate about it.
After C1W was introduced into international events in 2009, I considered it to be a new opportunity and I started training it one year later. This was primarily because I didn't want to be only a spectator but also a contributor in the U23 European Championships in Markkleeberg. After experiencing the feeling of being a part of international events I decided to concentrate only on Canoe. One year later the decision was paid out. I participated in my first senior European Championships and directly won a bronze medal.
The support of my club (Leipziger Kanu Club) and the University of Leipzig makes it possible to keep training at a high level, even if C1W is not yet an Olympic discipline and despite the still problematic monetary support situation in Germany. As well the university tries to support the process of raising media acknowledgement for C1W. We are still working on a film project that we tried to introduce with a short video last year. Our plan was to show the progress of C1W in the last 3/4 years, supported with interviews and videos of athletes from all over the world. Unfortunately there is still a lack of material because it is quite difficult to coordinate this all without a good base of knowledge.
As well I really like to write articles (and of course I try to improve my English level) and always follow nearly every step of Sportscene. So I hope that I can contribute to this amazing project, no matter in which way. And every aspect of this project really fits quite perfectly with my university studies.
