Once again as the New Year rolls in its time to head to warmer climates to train. This years January training destination is the White Nile in Uganda (Africa) one of the most popular freestyle kayaking warm water winter training destinations in the world.
In recent years the event has been on a much lower scale, largely due to poor levels, but this year Jacko from KayakoJacko went all out to bring the festival feel back and turn it back into the booming event it once was. With the boom that’s going on in freestyle right now it seems perfect timing to relaunch the event in this manner.
I have just got back to the UK following a fantastic two month freestyle tour of the East Coast of Canada and the USA. Starting in Canada my training began on the Ottawa river where I spent 2 weeks working on my wave and mystery skills.
The 2012 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup came to a spectacular conclusion on Sunday afternoon with down-to-the-wire victories in both the men’s and women’s K1 classes.
Saturday in the Nantahala Gorge, competitors didn’t let a little rain stop them from throwing down at the 2012 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup Final. Despite the weather, high scores and exciting rides were the order of the day.
As the 2012 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup Final unfolds on the Nantahala River, Peter Csonka, continues to lead the pack with an incredible 2116 points, while Dane Jackson, USA, sits in second place at the end of the preliminary rounds, a mere 123 points behind Peter Csonka.
Over the last 3 weeks the USA has seen over 120 of the top freestyle kayakers from around the world come together to take part in the 2012 World Cup series.

The 2012 Freestyle Kayaking World Cup Champion will be decided September 7-9 on the Nantahala River.
The 2012 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup #2 finished concluded on Saturday 1 September, on the Pigeon River in Hartford, Tennessee.
