Right after Jonathan (Johny) Akinyemi from Nigeria qualified for London 2012 in Bethlehem, South Africa last weekend, Sportscene got an exclusive interview with Johny the day he got back home in Warrington, Great Britain.
Frank Garner has attended three Olympic Games as Canada’s National Coach and three as an International Canoe Official. In 2012, Frank will go to the Olympics for the seventh time. He will be the Chief Official for the Flatwater Sprint events to be held in Eton, England in August.

This weekend Ash River, Bethlehem in South Africa will host the 2012 African Canoe Slalom Championships. The event which is organized by Canoeing South Africa takes place from 3 – 4 February and will also serve as an Olympic Qualifier.

Being an Olympic year, spring training camp is going to be longer then ever before, for myself. I am going to Florida for 3 months this year. I am heading down on February 5th and staying until the last week in April, when we will then drive from Melbourne, FL to Gainesville, GA for our final preparation for Canadian Olympic Team Trials.
In 1933, Dr. Oscar F La Palma and Enrique Rietchart, paddled the whole Río Negro (Spanish for Black River) from Bariloche to Viedma in a sailcloth kayak, crossing the Argentinian Patagonia. In 1964 a few sportsmen remembered this adventure and created a regatta connecting Neuquén and Viedma.
