With less then two weeks before Adam Tenwolde from Canada heads to Florida for their annual training camp he would like to share his tentative 2012 season schedule with us.

Being an Olympic year, spring training camp is going to be longer then ever before, for myself. I am going to Florida for 3 months this year. I am heading down on February 5th and staying until the last week in April, when we will then drive from Melbourne, FL to Gainesville, GA for our final preparation for Canadian Olympic Team Trials. The Canadian Olympic Team Trials are being held in Gainesville, Georgia on May 5th-6th.

My goals for this years Olympic trials are: be competitive, gain as much experience as possible, put myself in contention for a Senior Card and come away with a spot on the Canadian World Cup team. Canada is still taking a K4 to the first and second World Cups this season even though Canada won't compete in K4 at the Olympics. It is my goal to make the World Cup team in the 1000m K4 event. In order to get selected in a top K4 that will race at Olympic Trials I will have to perform well during testing while at the Florida training camp.

If I am able to crack the World Cup squad we will head to Europe shortly after Olympic Team Trials are over. The first World Cup is being held in Poznan, Poland on May 18th-20th. The second World Cup is the following weekend May 25th-27th in Duisburg, Germany. I have been to both Poznan, and Duisburg for training camps, however I have not raced on either course before. This would be a huge opportunity for me to race some of the worlds best as everyone is preparing towards the Olympics.

My goals for the second set of trials are: perform well enough/gain enough points (combined with Olympic team trials) to be selected for a Senior Card, and come away with a spot on the U23 Canadian team which will be competing in the North American Racing Series (NARS).

The North American Racing Series is a three weekend event with regattas in Ottawa, Lake Placid New York, and Welland Ontario. The series goes from the 1st of July thru to the 15th. The last regatta in the racing series is in Welland, Ontario and is the test event for the 2013 U23/Junior World Championships. I am told there are about 10 countries already committed to attend with hopes of a few more, so it should shape up to be strong regatta.

Once the U23 World Championships test event is over on July 15th I will head home, where I will spend the rest of my summer. This years National Championships are being held on Lake Banook, August 22nd-25th. It’s definitely one of the perks of training on the best natural race corse in Canada, Nationals is in Dartmouth every four years! Easy way to remember- it’s every Olympic year!
The last competition of the year is the U23 World Marathon Championships, being held in Rome, Italy. There are still a few kinks I have to work out with this regatta. I still don’t know when the qualifying regatta is and where is will be. In addition to qualifying I have to raise enough money to go. Marathon racing in Canada receives zero funding so all athletes have to pay their own way.

Thats all for now, check back to see my progress

Cheers,

Adam
