   If days 3 and 4 represented a turn around in the K2 standings at the Río Negro Regatta, no less surprising were the last two stages finishing in Viedma, the final destination of the great Argentinian race. On the final day the very young Franco Balboa and José Luis Guerrero claimed the overall victory, inheriting the throne left by Pinta and Mozzicafredo, twelve-time kings of the regatta.

   The last two days - the third and fourth stages of the Río Negro Regatta were held in Argentina from Choele Choel to Luis Beltran (38 km) and Don Andrés to General Conesa (43 km). There has been a very big change in the K2 races due to the incidents in the front bunch on the first two stages.

   Néstor Pinta and Martín Mozzicafredo became legends at Río Negro winning their 12th title together (13th in total for each). The final stage was held at Viedma on a circuit of four laps between the city's bridges, with eight portages along the 30 km course, crowded with spectators on a great canoeing day.

   The 36th Río Negro Regatta began last Saturday in Argentina: 7 stages totalling 277 km. Entries record, with 128 canoes including the great champions of this race, 11-time winners, Argentinians Néstor Pinta and Martin Mozzicafredo.

7. Río Negro Regatta – One of the longest marathon races crowns its kings

   In 1933, Dr. Oscar F La Palma and Enrique Rietchart, paddled the whole Río Negro (Spanish for Black River) from Bariloche to Viedma in a sailcloth kayak, crossing the Argentinian Patagonia. In 1964 a few sportsmen remembered this adventure and created a regatta connecting Neuquén and Viedma.
