Sports business and psychology experts Performance1 on-board

Nick Harding | Sportscene - Coaching leaders and teams in the art of success, Performance1 confirms their relationship with Sportscene.

When we started the Sportscene website many athletes asked us to publish more about sports psychology and coaching. It was only natural to turn to experts in this field, Performance1.

With this partnership we would offer support to the (junior) athletes and give other readers an insight into what it takes mentally to practise sport on such a high level. At an elite level all athletes train equally hard, and often it’s their mental toughness that makes the difference.

Mental toughness is spartanism with qualities of sacrifice, self-denial, dedication. It is fearlessness, and it is love.” Vince Lombardi, Hall of Fame Football Coach

Jonathan Males, Founder P1, is no stranger to elite level canoe sport. The Tasmanian paddled for the Australian canoe team competing at four World Championships and was twice Australian champion in slalom. He coached the Australian Olympic team in Barcelona and worked with the GB slalom and sprint teams over the next 3 Olympic Games.

“Jonathan is a great person to work and brainstorm with and I think the partnership is a logical result of the friendship we have developed.” Rob van Bommel, Director Sportscene

Jonathan Males, Founder P1:

I love working with Sportscene because it’s a great way of communicating with so many different paddlers.

Prodigy of the P1-Sportscene relationship, we will announce a unique project that will benefit canoe sport and athletes themselves later this year. Stay tuned.
