Day 2 World Cup Canoe Sprint Racice. Crowd erupt for local heroes.

Racice | International Canoe Federation - Formidable performances from Carrington (NZL), Sergeeva (RUS), Poulsen (DEN) and Brendel (GER) left opponents in their wake as each rapidly pulled away to win gold at the 2013 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup, Racice.
In the team boats Germany and Australia picked up a gold each, but it was the host nations K4 and C2 Men 1000m crews that created the grandstand's biggest cheers as they each crossed the line in first place on an exceptionally windy morning of finals.
Hosts Delivered
Jaroslav Radon and Filip Dvorak (CZE) capitalised on the noisy home support and raced to victory in the C2 Men 1000m, beating two strong German boats to second and third respectively.
Crowds swelled and their volume increased further as the quartet of Daniel Havel, Lukas Trefil, Josef Dostal and Jan Sterba took to the water. The K4 Men 1000m Olympic Bronze medalist certainly didn’t disappoint and led from start to finish. Portugal claimed silver and Germany gained Bronze.

In addition to two gold medals the Czech Republic also secured silver in the C1 Men 1000m and bronze in the K1 Women over the same distance.
Surprise Victories
Rene Holten Poulsen (DEN) put in an exceptionally powerful display in K1 Men 1000m and was all smiles at the finish, stating, “To be honest I’m surprised I won.” This result has thrown the K1 Men 1000m third and final World Cup race in Poznan wide open and left many supporters asking; what happened to Max Hoff?
The German, who has been in irresistible form, was pushed into fourth place, as Aleh Yurenia (BLR) and Ken Wallace (AUS) claimed silver and bronze respectively. Expect an explosive race in Poznan.
Lisa Carrington was also surprised following her victory in the K1 Women 500m. The New Zealander didn’t even qualify for the final of the event in Szeged. What a difference a week makes.
Her coach Gordon Walker (NZL) attributed last week’s disappointing performance to fatigue from traveling. Meanwhile, Carrington just put it down to inexperience over the longer distance. Whatever the reason, it is certain she is now a formidable opponent in over both the K1 Olympic distances.
Germans show strength
Germany again showed they have quality in-depth winning three gold medals. The duo of Franziska Weber and Tina Dietze took the first in the K2 Women. This was swiftly followed by another impressive display from the unstoppable Sebastian Brendel in the C1 Men 1000m.
The partnership of Max Rendschmidt and Marcus Gross made it three by winning the K2 Men 1000m.
Russian Anastasiya Sergeeva, got a great start in the K1 Women 1000m and maintained her lead throughout to take gold. Germany’s Verena Hantl narrowly claimed silver over local star Anna Koziskova in the same race.
Australian K2 Women 1000m duo of Bernadette Wallace and Naomi Flood won the K2 Women 1000m. After a slow start they pulled hard to fight back from fifth and ensure top spot on the podium.

Siemionowski shocker
Olympic Gold medalist Ed Mckeever sailed through to the final, but his main rival and Piotr Siemionowski (POL) struggled finishing forth in his heat and now will only contest the B final.
Olympic Silver and Bronze medalists, Jevgenij Shuklin (LTU) and Ivan Shtyl (RUS), came though their heats with ease and look set for another showdown in the C1 Men 200m final.
Many of the competitors will be gunning for Lisa Carrington (NZL) in Sunday's final. The Olympic Champion at the K1 200m distance is likely to face stiff competition from Natalia Podolskaya (RUS) and Teresa Portela (POR).
Expect Germany and Belarus to dominate the K4 Women 500m final tomorrow. Also Russia and Belarus look to be the strongest teams going into the C2 Men 200m final.
Without the gold and silver medalist from Szeged competing, Russia's Mari Kazakova will look to turn last weeks Bronze to Gold in the C1 Women 200m final.
