2013 PASO Conference - Coach The Worlds

Doris Corbin | Sportscene - An invitation was issued to all countries in the Americas to send one coach to a world-class Coaching Symposium in Welland, Ontario, Canada to be held in conjunction with the inaugural ICF Canoe Sprint Junior and Under23 World Championship.

After months of planning, Peter Neidre of Canoe Kayak Canada added an impressive list of Presenters to his week-long Program including:

  • Leo Thornly, CKC Lead Sport Scientist
  • Csaba Szanto, ICF Technical Director
  • Zoltan Bako, Former Hungarian National Team Coach and former Coach of the Brazilian Canoe/Kayak Team
  • Jose Lenoir, BCF Canoe Club, France
  • Irena Siraeva, Russian Canoe Federation
  • John Edwards, Domestics Development Director, Canoe Kayak Canada
  • Dave Robertson, Canao kayak Canada National Men's 100m Kayak Coach
  • Rob Stott, Canoe Kayak Canada, Men's Coach
  • Chris Chapman, Canoe Kayak Canada
  • Merryl See-Tai, Trinidad and Tobago, President and Head Coach

Topics of discussion included Managing The Transition from Junior to Senior, Improving Strength Qualities, The Yearly Plan, Women 's Canoe Development and lots of sharing of ideas that work from the grassroots to the elite athlete.

Csaba Szanto, ICF Technical Expert, said that 17 coaches from the Americas have benefitted greatly from this symposium.

Dwight Corbin, COPAC 1st Vice - President welcomed the coaches on behalf of The Pan American Canoe Federation and President, Cecilia Farias.

Presenter Merryl See-Tai said this conference for coaches in the Americas has been invaluable. Seventeen coaches will apply their newly- acquired ideas in their home programs and hopefully, the dialogue will continue.
