Jan Homolka
Jan, aka John, is a Czech journalist, photographer and former kayak paddler. Since he was a kid, the water has always been his favourite element and way of enjoying his free time. After a few years in a scout club which specialized in water sports and paddling, John joined the SK Vltava club to paddle kayak and visited races in France, Ireland and of course Czech Republic.
Despite his youth ( 22yrs ) John is a passionate photographer with a love of water sports. In the last year, John has covered races around Europe, such as the World Championship in La Plagne, France, the Liffey Descent marathon in Ireland, and the Adige marathon in Italy.
“I’ve always liked water and I didn’t want to leave this sport and the friends I’ve made when I stopped my racing career. And I’ve always liked taking photos, so I decided to combine my love of water with my passion for photography. The timing was perfect, because 2012 was a year full of big races – the World Championship in La Plagne and in Ceske Budejovice - my hometown, and the European Championship at Lipno. Last year gave me so much experience and I want to build on this. “
I know I’m young and my experiences are limited, but the only way to become better in this field is to work hard and have a go at every opportunity. That’s why I want to contribute to Sportscene. I want people to know that we have very good paddlers in the Czech Republic and that the races are friendly meetings with other paddlers. And the best way for me to show this is through my photos and words.
