Iran Schleder

iran schleder canoe kayak brazil journalist federation communication planet sportscene icfIt’s a great pleasure to introduce myself to you guys; people who I’m sure have fantastic stories about canoeing all over the world and fascinating experiences to share, from Australia to Brazil, from the UK to South Africa.

My name is Iran Schleder and I have been Communication Coordinator at the Brazilian Canoe Confederation since 2005. During this time I have had the opportunity to cover, as a journalist, some of the biggest sporting events in the world, such as Olympic Games, Pan-American Games, World Championships and South American events, amongst many more.

As a paddler my best particular experience in a kayak was an expedition that I joined in 2010, through the jungle on the Amazon River. The trip lasted more than two weeks and was an experience that opened my eyes to many of society’s unthinkable problems, which I never imagined could exist. I reported this amazing story in the Planet Canoe Magazine 2011. The trip has changed my way of seeing life, and was the kind of experience that gives an opportunity for reflection about what really matters in this global, modern lifestyle.

As an athlete I was always a very active guy. When I was five years old my mom had me enrolled in the swimming school because I was a “terror” at home. After that my life has always had sport in focus, which has been essential to my growth as a human being. I have played football and surfed all my life and these are my two passions, but I’m always ready for a good adventure. Last year I had my first skydiving experience, which was awesome. It was the perfect time to overcome my fear of heights.

iran schleder canoe kayak brazil journalist federation communication planet sportscene icfEven though I’m only 33 years old, I have already had many experiences. In Brazil I lived in nine different cities. I was always moving around and getting to know new cultural aspects of the country. I also lived in Sydney, Australia, where I finished my English language program, and of course improved my surfing on some of the most beautiful and perfect waves on the planet. Australia taught me many things and I realized that socially the Australian lifestyle is quite similar to the one enjoyed by the people of Rio de Janeiro.

I am always travelling, whether I’m working or on vacation. I love to travel and have known many cities all over the world in the last 10 years, but the African continent is still a blank on my visitor’s list. I’m planning to go to Morocco during my holidays in November and I’m sure that will be a fantastic life experience.

I hope to share with you all my experiences here in South America; more specifically, news from Brazil, host of the next biggest events in the world. Brazil is breathing sports right now and many things have been happening here. I also want to make myself available as a journalist contact if you need me.

Well, that’s it guys, let’s promote our sports with interesting reports and stories.

I give my best regards to everyone.
