2011 World Championships Wildwater Canoe Sprint

From 11th till 13th June 2011, once again it is Augsburg where Canoe history is going to be made. With premiere of the FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS WILDWATER CANOE SPRINT on the traditional 1972 Olympic race track on the “Ice-channel”, canoe sport is breaking new grounds.

For the first time, the best athletes will determine “King and Queen” of Wildwater Sprint on the artificial white water channel. The host, Kanu Schwaben Augsburg is expecting around 250 athletes from about 25 countries. Preparation under leadership of Horst Woppowa and Karl Heinz Englet and the organising committee, are running at full speed to offer a spectacular festival of sport. „We are on track!“ Englet and Woppowa are confirming, and everyone can´t wait till the final countdown. Besides organising Wildwater sprint races at its best, an event program is in final stage of preparation. Kanu Schwaben Ausgsburg is aiming to offer to fans & spectators fascinating races as well as a memorable celebration of an event for the whole family during Whitsunday.

With significant wording: „Enjoy the Championships!“ Jose Perurena López, President of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) is joining in the Augsburg Canoe happening. López is expecting for sure spectacular and exciting races. With that, he finds himself in line with Thomas Konietzko, President of the German Canoe Federation (DKV): „I am certain that these World Championships will be another successful milestone for our sport.” Last but not least, Oliver Bungers, president of the Bavarian Canoe Federation (BKV) is excited to see fascinating races soon.

The Augsburg Ice-Channel, on which this year the First World Championships Whitewater Canoe Sprint are being held, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The channel became well known as the first artificial white water race track, set up for the Olympic Games 1972, the course had been finished already a year earlier in 1971. Reason enough for the German Canoe Federation and Kanu Schwaben Augsburg for a special birthday gift. Free entry tickets for the FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS WILDWATER CANOE SPRINT AUGSBURG 2011 are given out to canoe clubs of interest, to celebrate the archetype for all artificial race tracks around the world. Free tickets are available on postal request at German Canoe Federation, including a post-paid self addressed envelope. Max. 20 tickets for club per day are being sent out.
