Last summer Double Dutch introduced the Nutron to the market: A slalom paddle made of 2 pieces, instead of 3. Every attachment in a paddle is an extra weakness – Sander van Kuijl (Owner of Double Dutch) - especially between the blades and the shaft, because that is the highest pressure point of the paddle. We were able to eliminate those and reduce the attachment points to 1, in the middle of the shaft.

Beside the strength, this makes it a lot easier for customers to assemble the paddle at home or at their travel destination. Martina Wegman just flew with her Nutron to New Zealand and assembled it at her second home ‘Okere Falls’, saving a lot on baggage costs.

In 2013 the Nutron was available in Small and Medium. In March 2014 the Nutron will also be available in Large. We know that the market for the Large Nutron is much smaller than for the Medium, but at the same time we are a high-end competition brand and we need to serve the strongest paddlers in the kayak slalom scene, including our Olympic champion Daniele Molmenti. Beside that we already had a high demand for the large Nutrons last year (Sander van Kuijl).

Nutron Characteristics

The Nutron blade is slightly smaller than the original Double Dutch Kinetic blade. The blade has some extra curve and the 2 piece concept is only available with a straight shaft.

The Nutron Large has 6% more surface than the Nutron Medium, with a total of 755 cm2.

Due to the extra curve, the Nutron has an extremely smooth stroke – Maarten Hermans (Dutch Kayak Slalom Champion) – I have been testing the Large Nutron in the past month. My strokes are straight and powerful and the blade cuts through the water easily. This is pretty extraordinary for a large paddle, perfect for racing.

The Large Nutron will go into production soon. You can already order at www.doubledutch.eu. If you order now, you will have your paddle right in time for the season. Double Dutch  will start delivery in March.
