To get started, here’s some important information. The Deep Creek 2014 Mascot is in fact a river otter, an aquatic mammal that lives along rivers, but is also found near streams and lakes. Otters prefer water bordered by woods and with wetlands, such as marshes, nearby. Flexing their long bodies up and down, paddling with their webbed hind feet, and using their feet and strong tails to steer, river otters are underwater acrobats.
The largest inbound sporting event to the United States in 2014, Deep Creek 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships will bring tremendous international focus on Maryland’s scenic western-most county with close to 300 athletes from over 40 international countries competing and over 21.5 million international broadcast television viewers around the world.
The teams and athletes will be arriving in the region during the Labor Day weekend and will be onsite through the end of the World Championships on September 21.
The 2013 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were held in Prague, Czech Republic, and the 2015 Championships will be held in London, England.
