Kiwis seek top canoe slalom coach
Guy Dresser | Oronne Communications - Two of New Zealand’s top canoe slalom athletes are looking for a high performance coach in Europe to help them with their quest for success in 2016.
The part-time role, to be based in Europe for 22 weeks and in New Zealand for training camps of 4-8 weeks at a time, will be to prepare men’s K1 slalom kayaker Mike Dawson and top female paddler Luuka Jones for their 2013 season.
Dawson finished 15th in the men’s K1 semi-final while Jones was 14th in the women’s semi-final.
Although neither therefore qualified for finals their results mean they’re seen as prospective medal prospects in 2016 and so have secured significant funding from High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ).
This will help pay for a Europe-based coach while they’re over here training and racing. The successful coaching candidate will have an international record of getting athletes to achieve high performance as well as experience of developing an Olympic campaign.
Essentially they will be responsible for the paddlers’ 2013 World Cup and World Championship campaign with a view to establishing a comprehensive world class slalom programme aimed at a podium performance at the Rio Olympic Games.
Closing date is 22 March – applications to be emailed here. Full details on Global Sports Jobs’ website.
