GB slalom selection 2013: interviews with athletes and officials

Click on 'Playlist' in the above to see the other interviews with David Florence, John Anderson, Roger Fox, Tim Baillie, Paul Ratcliffe and several more.

Nick Harding | @nickhdg | Sportscene - Want to know what some of the athletes were thinking at the GB slalom selection earlier in the spring? Behind-the-scenes interviews are now up on Youtube.

Sportscene's Slalom Expert John Gregory and I managed to catch up with a whole host of experienced paddlers, young talent and GB Canoeing officials. Our resident photographer Adriana was on hand for the stills.

Lee Valley was pipped and primed ready to go for a weekend of exciting racing. Following on from races 1 and 2 at Holme-Pierrepont, Nottingham, races 3 and 4 would decide the national places. Outlook was gusty and grey with sporadic but hot sunshine.

A fair few people where there watching after a bitter cold winter, but not as many as the 12,000 a day though during last summer's Olympics. This didn't dampen spirits as the standard of racing was world class.

One highlight was the down-to-the-wire K1W's points feud for first and second between Lizzie Neave and Fiona Pennie that depended on the K1M's result.

Despite having been automatically qualified, Baillie, Stott, Hounslow and Florence still gave it their all raising the level of competition across the field – just look at the incredible performance of young stars Greg Pitt and Adam Burgess who won the final C2M's race over the Olympic champions to seal their place as third national boat!

GB Performance Director John Anderson,

I'm particularly proud of our Olympic medallists coming out, performing and getting in the team, they've done it and that's great. They're great role models for everybody else.
