After a five week break the World Cup picks up again exactly three years since the London Olympics. The paddlers have been busy putting in sessions on Lee Valley for the upcoming Worlds next month, or racing at the Pan Am Games in Minden, Canada and competing in other national championships.

Only an idea, but why not? It’s not such a ridiculous idea. We have had the Deep Creek Senior Worlds, Foz Junior/U23 Worlds and Minden Pan Am ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympics. A World Cup last took place in Canada here in 1997 and in US in Wausau back in 2001.

Seniority shone through. It was great to see Slovakian’s Michal Martikan, 36, Jana Dukatova, 32, Pavol & Peter Hochschorner, 35 taking respective home wins. Excluding the C1W class (sorry Mallory), the average age of the winners was 30. This is very significant; marking a race not dominated by the U23s! So much more than just a World Cup – why we love Prague so much
The Czech team again took full advantage of their home race to secure 6 golds with wins in C1M, C1W, K1M as well as C1M, C1W & K1W teams. Why do we all love Prague so much? Well for one the World Cup has become a week long Paddlefest, with the Paddleride and Riverside Cross on the Vlatva river in the majestic old city in addition to the World Cup race in Troja.

The 2015 ICF World Cup series gets underway with paddlers from 45 federations racing in Prague. It is a consistent venue in the calendar that has regularly hosted World Cup races and the recent 2013 Worlds.
Beware the crocodiles – Junior / U23 Canoe Slalom paddlers look snappy in Foz
The natural obstacles and gates were not the only hazards in Foz do Iguassu, in which crocodiles, alligators and snakes swam around the warm up lake. It was a strange test of mental preparation before the start of an ICF Junior/U23 Worlds race.

Now with these Junior/ U23 Worlds in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil, then next the Pan American Games this summer on the Gull river in Ontario, Canada and culminating with the Rio Olympics in 2016.
