Leco Salazar wins the AlmaSurf Mormaii International
Leco Salazar storms to victory at home in Brazil for Stop 5 of the 2011 Stand Up World Tour with a phenomenal display of performance surfing in the challenging beach break conditions on offer at Maresias, Sao Paolo Brazil. In an emotional finish, Leco battled it out wave for wave with 2010 World Champion Kai Lenny for the win, but found the better sets and strung together two exceptional waves for a heat total of 17.5 points (a 9.0 and an 8.5).
In second place, Kai Lenny represented Hawaii incredibly throughout the event, showcasing some of the most progressive riding ever witnessed and all put together with style and flow. Third and fourth place finishers were former pro shortboarder Renato Wanderley and Brazilian National Champion Luis Saraiva.
The AlmaSurf Mormaii International was an event to remember and the welcome and appeal of the destination at Maresias was incredible. Although we had predominantly wind swell and smaller conditions, the potential of the location is unreal and we look forward to the second edition in 2012.
