Robinson beats Jacobs in classic final
By: Manly Daily - Champion Freshwater ocean paddler Tim Jacobs wasn’t able to finish the 20 Beaches Ocean Classic series undefeated in the event’s final leg on Saturday.
But he can be forgiven for being beaten by the man who claimed line honours.
That’s because it was Queensland’s five-time Olympian Clint Robinson who dominated the 279-strong field of competitors across the 26km course from Freshwater to Palm Beach.
With unfavourable easterly winds putting pressure on many of the competitors to stay on course without being pushed inland, Robinson was joined by Jacobs - the local favourite who has won all previous four races in the series this year - and Tasmanian Sam Norton with 6km to go before Robinson cut loose.
“Clint smashed it,” Jacobs said.
Despite coming second Jacobs, 34, still managed to win the overall series.
The top female paddler was Lauren Smith who finished in a time of 1:58.37.
