Nick Harding | @nickhdg | Sportscene - Our partnership with the canoe manufacturing giant and visionary Nelo has recently strengthened, collaborating together to further develop our sport and community, and bring the exposure and news coverage of paddlesports to the next level.

The friendship began last year with a small initiative where Nelo International and Nelo Australia provided Sportscene with branded clothing when we covered about 25 competitions: World Championships, World Cups and the Olympics, see article.

This time the project goes much deeper, Nelo will leverage the success of the Sportscene platform and together we will work on the objectives and dreams we both have in common as partners. Nelo and Sportscene are set on providing the sport with more innovation, personality and developing the sport globally. Amongst other themes we have in mind, such as building more ‘brotherhood & awareness’ between the different disciplines, this also means enhancing athletes' opportunities from establishing competing continents like South America, Central Europe, Africa and Asia.

Andre Santos (Nelo International), Jimmy Owens (Nelo Australia) and Sportscene Director Rob have spent days together refining and defining this exciting and stronger collaboration.

To understand what this means for Sportscene, let's have a quick look at its origins. The idea for the Sportscene concept, supported by Australian Richard Fox the most successful canoeist and innovator of his time, was the brainchild of ex-Dutch national slalomist Rob and his wife Mirjam. Rob funded the concept and website on his own and worked tirelessly to cultivate its image with the support of the canoe community (contributors, the athletes and their families, coaches, national federations, to name a few).

2013, Sportscene and its content for desktop, mobile and tablet, has grown since those trial and error days to being the world's leading paddlesports platform. It now also has the support of one of the largest and most trusted brands in the world: Nelo. This can only mean our shared vision, dreams and website can continue to expand its coverage and impact, all for the benefit of our community and beyond.

Andre Santos and Jimmy Owens:

With limited resources Sportscene gave the world of paddlesports a face. Where the sport a few years ago only consisted of similar looking anonymous canoeists, Sportscene showed that professional media-related innovation in our sport is possible and that the world of paddlesports is more than 'just' racing athletes: there are numerous and incredible interesting stories about the athletes, their coaches and many other topics.

Other brands have now also showed their interest; more news will follow.
