Host city for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games – that’s the prize awaiting one of the three candidate cities, Istanbul (Turkey), Tokyo (Japan) and Madrid (Spain), as they made their presentations for the first time to members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) 3 and 4 July 2013 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
This technical briefing was one of the most crucial opportunities for candidates to make their case to IOC members, before the IOC Session in Buenos Aires, in September 2013, when the 2020 Host City will be elected.
An Evaluation Commission has visited the cities already - but at this key get-to-know meeting, IOC members were able to put their questions directly to the candidate cities. It was the cities' penultimate examination before their final presentation ahead of the vote in Buenos Aires.
