“Whatever race Henrik Vasbanyai and I do the only option for us is victory”, said Robert Mike Canoe paddler very determined.

The two athletes won Gold medals at the World Championship in Duisburg, Germany in 2013, they pulled in another flawless victory in C-2 at the European Championship in Beetzsee/Brandenburg. Keeping the high spirit they are now preparing for the new challenges. The focus is on the European Games at first in June followed by the World Championship few weeks later.

“First we’ll race at the National Selection regatta and then we pretty much will be heading straight to the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. What goals we have at the selection race..? Step on the top of the podium of course, there is no other option!”

He also added that even though there will be six out of twelve of the Olympic spots available to achieve at the Worlds in Milan it is not the main motivation for them.

“Of course, needless to say, we want to be at the Olympic Games but there’s still a very long way to go until that.. And same talking the gold medal at the World Championships is also shining very bright as we had the privilege to adore it in Duisburg two years ago. We want to defend our title and we’d experience any other result as a great disappointment.”

Just to stay at the facts, they will definitely be missing out on defending their European Champion title since our best athletes will skip the Games in Czech Republic in early May.

Until the midsummer competitions they will only attend local training camps in Hungary and in fact Henrik Vasbanyai doesn’t mind it at all if they don’t go abroad:

It might sound weird but I don’t like training camps abroad. I get homesick! If we’re at home we don’t need to adopt and adjust to a new environment, we have everything available that we need for a smooth preparation.

However the two canoeists don’t prefer to look all the way to Rio just yet, there’s an interesting info for us from Infostrada Sports – according to their current shape and form – they predict Gold medal for them  at the Olympic Games.
