Source: DKV | Translation: Ulla Fischer - Instructed by the newly assigned national trainer, Kay Vesely, the kayak ladies took first trainings measures in preparation for the new season. “Set common training goals” is the motto of this one- week training course.

During this week at the sports centre in Potsam, basic endurance as well as weight training and swimming were on the itinerary. One of the highlights was the Gal- training, for which the lot decided on the composition of two K4 boats. “It was fun” had been the common opinion among the athletes- Franziska Weber, Tina Dietze, Verena Hantl, Conny Waßmuth, Steffi Kriegerstein, Melanie Gebhardt, Sabine Volz and Tabea Medert. Ladies coach Kay Vesely confirmed, that the athletes were “highly motivated and did not spare themselves anything”.

Nevertheless, the signs of fatigue are visible, after this one week of hard work. “I hope this motivation and devotedness continues. If the girls continue to train hard during the upcoming weeks, we will be in a good starting position for the next season”, said Kay Vesely. The next initiative will be a two- week trainings camp in Sabaudia (Italy), from 26th of November. In those warmer climates, many paddle kilometres are supposed to be completed.

Preparations for the pre-paralympic race season in Kienbaum

Source: DKV - This season’s last trainings camp of the para canoe national team served as first instance for the trainings planning for the race season 2015.

This will be the season in which the desired spots for Rio 2016 will be awarded to the athletes. Trainers, mentors and active athletes came together for five intensive training days in Kienbaum. In perfect paddle weather, measurement races were performed. In addition, possible actions were discussed as well as the use of trainings diaries and the implementation of doping prevention.

This measure was positively welcomed by all athletes. Head coach Mathias Neubert, together with discipline trainer Jürgen Hausmann, drew a positive balance from those five days and said: “On the basis of the measurement races, we could draw some improvement points for each individual athlete, which need to be implemented during the next season.”
