Laszlo Toth nominated to coach Canada’s Women’s Kayak Team
CanoeKayak Canada - Laszlo Toth is nominated as coach of Canada's women’s kayak team. Toth comes from the paddling powerhouse of Hungary and has coached some of the country’s top paddlers, including 2004 Olympic Champion Botond Storcz. Toth graduated from the College of Physical Education in Budapest with a major as a Kayak-Canoe Trainer and Sport Manager.
“Laszlo has an impressive set of coaching credentials and his experience is exactly what our women’s kayak team needs to be successful in 2016 and beyond,” said Scott Logan, CanoeKayak Canada’s High Performance Director. “He has coached several disciplines at the most elite level and has a solid understanding of the needs of each. We’re excited for what he will add to our team.”
Toth was the head coach of the Hungarian Junior Men Kayak Team for five years and has coached at several Hungarian clubs. Most recently, he was head coach with the Mexican Canoe Federation and was previously head coach for the Chinese Canoeing Association where he coached the Women’s K2 500 to a fifth place finish at the 2011 World Championships.
As an athlete, Toth specialized in marathon kayaking and won a silver medal at the 1994 World Championships in K2.
“I love this sport and I am excited for the chance to coach the Canadian women’s kayak team,” said Toth. “I do not consider what I do work, it is also a hobby that I really enjoy, it's a lifestyle and something I am happy to do. Canada has produced some great athletes and I know together we can bring out the best results in singles and crew boats.”
Toth will meet the Canadian team at World Cup 2 in Racice, Czech Republic, May 17-19. CanoeKayak Canada is making arrangements for Toth’s move to Canada so he can start working with the women’s kayak team as soon as possible.
