Press release International canoe Federation - Brazil showed their canoeing credentials winning two gold medals at the 2013 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Poznan, Poland this weekend. Following the appointment of a new coach the Brazillian athletes are beginning to show signs of real progress as they start on the road to Rio 2016.

First, Isaquias Dos Santos (BRA) won gold in the C1 Men 500m, and then Erlon Souza and Ronilson De Oliveira swiftly followed with victory in the C2 Men 200m. The duo also collected silver in the C2 Men 500m, and showed promise over the longer 1000m distance.

For the second ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in a row, Lisa Carrington (NZL) stamped her authority all over the K1 Women 200m and 500m events. The 23-year-old Olympic Champion is in irresistible form and looks to be the hot favourite to become World Champion when they line up Duisenberg, Germany later this season. 

After disappointment two weeks ago at the Racice World Cup, Germany’s Max Hoff returned to form and took his second gold of this season in the K1 Men 1000m.

Rene Holten Poulsen (DEN) and Ken Wallace (AUS) also each added to their season tally of gold medals, winning the K1 Men 500m and 5000m respectively.

With gold in the C1 Men 1000m, Olympic Champion Sebastian Brendel (GER) made it a hat-trick of victories in this seasons World Cup events.

The unstoppable Laurence Vincent-Lapointe (CAN) again dominated the women’s canoe events, winning gold in the C1 Women 200m and a second in the C2 Women 500m with teammate Sara-Jane Caumartin (CAN).

Host nation athletes also preformed well, with standout results in the K2 Women 500m, K2 Women 1000m and K2 Men 1000m.

Germany and Canada were the strongest nations winning four gold medals a piece; Russia, New Zealand and Poland each won three.
