The second day of World Championships qualifications took place Thursday in the city of Poznan, that one could call the 2012 capital of canoeing for having hosted four major canoeing events this year. After narrowly missing qualification in 2010, host Poland Senior Men made history by reaching the top 12 for the first time performing really well and knocking New Zealand into the lower half of group D.

All Teams in each category are divided in 4 groups (A,B,C,D) except for the women under 21 that gathers all the 7 teams in one group.

Men

A - France, Australia and Great Britain through to a top 12 finish. South Africa and Russia miss the cut.

B - Netherlands, Germany and Sweden through. Chinese Taipei, Japan and Portugal complete the group with Portugal surprisingly failing to win a game in this group.

C – Italy, Spain and Belgium make it through. Canada, Singapore and Brazil complete the group.

D – The “group of death” - Denmark top the group on goal difference ahead of Switzerland with host Poland making it through to the top twelve for the first time. With respect to USA and Finland who finished fifth and sixth respectively. New Zealand is the team to miss the cut and will drop dramatically in the world ranking.

Women

A - Great Britain and Italy qualify through with Singapore performing well to take third ahead of Japan and Russia.

B - Germany and hosts Poland through with Switzerland third and Spain fourth on goal difference.

C - France and Netherlands through to top 8. Some compensation to the Netherlands after their Under 21 Men failed to get through. Netherlands beat the fast improving Chinese Taipei 6-4 yesterday proved to be the difference. Canada trail in fourth in the group.

D - Oceania dominate the group with Australia and New Zealand both through to the last 8. Denmark and USA miss the cut.

The world games qualification place in the women still to be decided between Canada and USA.

Under 21 men

A - Germany and Denmark qualify into top 8. Russia get third and Czech republic in their first worlds find in tough in the first round.

B - France and New Zealand qualify into top 8. Poland miss the cut coming third with Belgium completing the group in fourth.

C - Japan beat Netherlands 6-3 to go through with Great Britain. Netherlands surprisingly miss the cut coming third with Canada finding it hard going in fourth.

D - Spain's victory yesterday against Italy means they top the group but Italy also go through into top 8. Portugal and Namibia who are learning with each game miss the cut.

Under 21 Women

With six games each in this group the battle continues with Germany first and Great Britain fourth both having played four games with France and New Zealand second and third but only having played three games. Poland, Canada and Japan complete the group.

The Poznan World Championships will also serve as the qualification competition for the 2013 IWGA World Games which will be held in Colombia.

The top 5 Men and Women's teams will be invited to compete at next year’s World Games, and the highest placed women's team from the Americas will also qualify.
