John Gregory
John is a British canoe slalom and canoe polo paddler. John has spent more than 25 years as an international canoe slalom commentator, magazine contributor, squad coach and team manager supporting GB canoe slalom. Disappointed at not having an ‘official’ role at London2012, John agreed to contribute by writing a daily canoe slalom blog as a feed to several sports website. It took off to such an extend he was top of the Google search engine!
“It started on a cold day, it may even have been raining when I picked up a paddle age 13 at the Dockland Scout Project in London. This sport has brought me so much; passion, friends, in fact, I think most of my life and career is built of things I have learned from the world of canoeing.”
“Back in the days of BBC ‘Paddles Up’ and before the Barcelona Olympics we dreamed that one day canoe slalom would attract media attention, sponsors and funding. A dream has already come to fruition.”
I am honoured to be contributing to Sportscene as I am happy to support those with an equal genuine passion for sharing this wonderful paddlesport with others, both to profile the top end of Olympic canoe slalom and inspire anyone to pick up a paddle for the very first time.
In John’s time away from paddling he is a Chartered Marketer leading international projects in the healthcare industry. In 2008, he founded a charitable organisation for those at risk of homelessness.
